Marrakech | A 12th Century Moorish Empire

Dating back to the Berber Empire, Marrakech (also spelt Marrakesh), is a major economic centre in western Morocco. Its walled medieval Medina is a densely packed melting pot of maze-like alleyways encompassing souks selling a variety of traditional wears such as textiles, jewellery and pottery.

The extraordinary 12th-century Koutoubia Mosque is a Moorish minaret that stands guard over the city and is a symbol of Marrakesh that can be seen from miles away.
